Chow Mien

Don't roll over if you are a great fan of authentic Asia cuisine.  This is a "Texas" version from my Aunt Geneva Smith, which can be prepared pronto.
My Uncle Ellis used to eat this with saltine crackers.  I don't know why.

1 to 1 ¼ pound ground beef, turkey or chicken

3 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 coarse diced medium yellow onion
1 coarsely diced medium green pepper

½ head green cabbage including core, chopped
    soy sauce, to taste
    Chinese 5 Spice, optional
    fresh ginger, finely minced, optional

Sauté the ground meat and garlic in wok or heavy skillet.  Drain off excess fat.  Add remaining ingredients and stir fry on high heat until vegetables are translucent, but do not over cook.  Serve over chow mien noodles.  Place a bottle of soy sauce on the table so diners may add more to suit their taste.

Bok choy can be substituted for the green cabbage.  Also fresh, chopped tomatoes may be added.
