Hot Cocoa

This takes a bit longer than heating water in the microwave and adding packaged cocoa mix, but what a difference in taste!  Making hot cocoa is a good "starter" recipe for children to try.  Be sure to supervise very young ones.  Enjoy making this with each other.

Again, read all the directions before beginning.  It is essential to mix the sugar and cocoa before adding the water and milk.

    3 tablespoons sugar
    2 tablespoons powdered cocoa
   ¼ cup water
1 ¾ cups milk
½ teaspoon vanilla, optional
    marshmallows
    ground cinnamon
    stick cinnamon

Stir together sugar and cocoa in medium saucepan.  Add water and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils.  Add milk and heat to serving temperature, but do not boil.  Pour immediately into mugs.

This makes 2 servings.

Top with marshmallows; miniature ones work well and kids love them. Or for a real traditional Mexican treat, try whipping the chocolate with a whisk before pouring into mugs and sprinkle with a little ground cinnamon and serve with a cinnamon stick in each mug.
