Mulled Cider

  1 gallon apple cider or juice
10 whole allspice
10 whole cloved
  5 sticks cinnamon
  3 cups brandy or rum, optional
     orange slices and whole cloves for garnish

 
 

Simmer apple cider or juice and spices, without boiling, a day ahead.  Refrigerate until ready to serve.  Serve cold or hot in a punch bowl or slow cooker.  Add brandy or rum just prior to serving.  Garnish with with orange slices studded with whole cloves.
